Long jump takeoff analysis from a phone video

A flat takeoff is decided on the step before the board, and it feels the same from the runway as a steep one. Film side-on, level with the board, and the Film Room measures the takeoff angle and the lift, and points at the step that caused it.

What it measures

Takeoff angle against the eighteen to twenty-two degree band long jumpers usually hit, hip rise as a share of body height, and trunk and arms through the approach. Triple jump is its own setting: first takeoff angle and the three phases counted.

Coach's eye: Still the best at the pit. The clip lets the eye see the penultimate step at a tenth of the speed.

Where should the camera be?

Side-on, level with the board, the athlete filling the frame, far enough back to keep the last three steps and the flight in shot.

Does it read the mark?
