Hurdle technique analysis from video: trunk dip, lead leg, hip rise

Running over the barrier, not jumping it, is the whole event, and it is invisible at full speed. Film side-on and the Film Room measures the dip, the lead leg and how far the hips climb, then names the drill.

What it measures

Trunk dip over the barrier, lead-leg extension at the hurdle, hip rise as a share of body height, and overstride between barriers. A hurdler who floats shows up as hips that climb; one who runs through shows up flat.

  • Frame step to the moment the lead leg opens
  • Compare the first hurdle against the eighth
  • Drills for a high clearance or a folded lead leg, matched to the clip

Questions

Which hurdles?

Any height and spacing. The measures are about the body, not the barrier.

Can it see the trail leg?

Only what a side-on camera can see. The trail leg's turn-out is the one thing it is honest about not measuring.
