For speed and performance coaches

StatLap turns one phone into a form and speed kit: a skeleton on the athlete, ground contact and cadence from a side-on clip, top speed between two cones, barbell velocity rep by rep in the weight room, and every check kept so the next one reads against it. The Film Room is free, needs no account, and the clip never leaves the phone.

What one phone does, free, with no account

The Film Room
Record in the app or import a clip you already shot. Slow motion down to a tenth speed, frame-by-frame step, freehand drawing, lines, and an angle from three taps.
A skeleton, automatically
On-device tracking draws the athlete and reads knee and hip angles straight off the video. Tap one body in a group and it follows only them.
Form check
Trunk lean, elbow carry, overstride, knee fold and extension, each against its own range for the event, with the fault named and a drill attached. Sprint and distance, block start, hurdles, long and triple jump, high jump, throws.
Ground contact, flight and cadence
From a sprint clip: contact time in milliseconds, flight time, and steps a minute, with no mat and no pod. It tells you when the clip is too slow a frame rate to trust.
Top speed
Put two cones a measured distance apart on the athlete's line, both in shot, and mark them on the video once. The next Form check adds metres a second and miles an hour.
40-yard dash and speed gates
One phone fires the bang and times to the line. Two phones any distance apart give a live flying split in metres a second and miles an hour.
Bar speed
Film a set from the side, mark something of known length in the plane the bar moves in, and the check counts the reps, reads mean and peak concentric velocity with the travel of each, says how far the set fell away from its best rep, and whether the depth held. It never calls a bar fast or slow, because it cannot see the load.
Compare and Ghost
Two clips side by side with synced play and a per-clip frame nudge, or one laid over the other see-through. Last month against today, or a client against a model run you filmed yourself.
Progress
Every Form check is kept on that phone under the athlete's name, and the last five of each athlete and event sit side by side, so a change is a number rather than an impression.
Interval timer
Reps or laps with the rest between them, timed by tapping, saved and shareable as text.

Where the clips live

Everything above runs on the phone itself. Nothing uploads, there is no account to make, and a client's video stays in your pocket. That is also why it is free and stays free.

What the Coach plan adds

$12 a month, or $50 for a six-month season (saves 31%). One library that remembers every clip, wherever you keep it. Paste a link from YouTube, Drive or your own storage, say in a note what you want the athlete to look at, file it against their name, and send them a link they open with no account and no app. Search it later by athlete and event together.

Fourteen days free, no card. Cancel from your own subscription page at any time, with no call and no retention step. Every feature, and which few a plan pays for.

What it does not do

StatLap does not log lifting: there is no exercise library, no sets and loads, and no programme to follow. It is not a certified timing system: its times are app-timed and every published result says so. The Form check is a coaching aid, not a medical or injury assessment. Pole vault is not analysed, because the tracker follows the body and not the pole. Speed is not reported from a treadmill clip, because the belt moves under the athlete; form on a treadmill is measured, and the incline is taken off the trunk angle before you see it.

How a first session goes

  1. Open timing.statlap.com on your phone and tap Coaching. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.
  2. Film the athlete side-on, whole body in frame, phone at hip height, five to ten seconds of the movement. A fence post or a tripod beats a hand.
  3. For speed, put two cones a measured distance apart on the athlete's line with both in shot, and mark them on the video once.
  4. Pick the event under the video and tap Form check. Read the count and the first fix, then open the findings under them.
  5. Film the same athlete again in a fortnight and open Progress. Then tell us which number you did not believe.

What we ask of a tester

One session run through it and an honest note afterwards: what confused you, which number you did not trust, and what you would need before you used this with a paying client. Write to support@statlap.com. We answer the same day.

What you will compare it with

Said plainly, because you will find out anyway.

OnForm, Hudl Technique, Coach's Eye
Good video tools you probably already use. StatLap does the slow motion and the drawing too, then adds a skeleton, a Form check against a range, and contact and cadence from the same clip.
Timing gates and transponders
Purpose-built, accurate, and honest about what they are. They are also hardware to buy, carry and charge. Two phones cost nothing and are already in the bag.
Force plates and velocity devices
They measure things a camera cannot, and StatLap does not pretend otherwise. A phone covers what happens on the track, not what happens under a bar.
Your own eye
Better than any software at spotting a fault. What it cannot do is tell you the contact was 210 milliseconds, or put today's run beside the one from six weeks ago while the athlete watches.
