StatLap vs OnForm: drawing tools or measurements

OnForm is the video analysis app coaches already know. The Film Room borrows its shape and adds the numbers. Here is what that gains and what it gives up.

OnForm is what most video-minded coaches use: record, slow-mo, draw lines and angles, put two clips side by side, talk over it, send it to the athlete. The StatLap Film Room was built to feel the same way on purpose, because that is what people are used to. The difference is what happens after the drawing.

What OnForm does better

What the Film Room adds

What it gives up

A single 2D camera cannot see rotation, and a phone tracker is not a lab. The report says when the camera was head-on and when the tracker was too slow to time ground contact, and it treats every number as a trend rather than a verdict. OnForm never claims a number, so it never has to say when one is wrong. That is a fair trade in both directions.
